Jung's psychology, the work of Piaget, and to Native American iconography. After exploring the four types of intellectual function, she launches an extensive discussion of the classic types of the Enneagram, leavened by personal anecdote and lively description. It is often extremely funny, albeit in a very dark way. It concerns a group of spies and anarchists who meet in the Soho shop of Verloc unbeknown to his wife Winnie who married him mainly to look after her simple younger brother Stevie. Verloc’s acquaintances are not joined by a shared vision but by their political fanaticism. Verloc is a lazy but not unmoral man, and a double-agent in many senses. The key figures in the group are Ossipon, who makes money from seducing women, and ‘the Professor’ who is a genuinely terrifying American terrorist who walks the streets with a bomb strapped to his chest so he will never be caught. The latter is a parasite on society and proud of it, while the others, including Vladimir, Yundt and Michaelis, show varying awareness of their common immorality. Largely this is a comedy of errors, and we see the almost absurd ruin of Verloc who takes on a ridiculously ambitious terrorist job to blow up the Greenwich Observatory against his will. He uses the naïve Stevie to plant the bomb but the boy is blown up and Winnie, learning of this, murders Verloc. She plans to leave the country with Ossipon but inevitable all goes horribly wrong and suicide follows. Although the subject matter is consistently dark , the author shows his suspicion about the worth of radical politics and anarchism, handles it almost sardonically. The events are exciting and is a genuine page-turner of a book.

Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games) Information

I am at a loss for words. This has got to be one of, if not the best book I have ever read. The story took off six months after Katniss and Peeta won the 74th Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV, and never slowed down.

The characters remained amazing and they developed so much from the last book and throughout this one. It is amazing the hatred you can feel towards a fictional character, but Suzanne Collins doesn't make you think twice about hating President Snow.

The plot of the story was a little strange at first, but when I realized what was really going on, I was amazed at the story. What scares me the most is that I can see this happening with the way our world is going. And that fright is so amazing.

The ending... oh the ending. It was such a cliffhanger that I think I am going to have to go to Scholastic and protest that Mockingjay be released asap.

This is an amazing book and if you haven't read this series yet, I recommend that you do. Your life may depend on it.

i inhaled these books with an unsettling fury! luckily i bought them before i started school or else they would have seriously interfered. i am obsessed with this story line and writing style of suzanne collins! the last 50 pages of the final book destroyed me!! in a good way...but ya i was sobbing! the whole series is so good i can't praise it enough. i had a funny encounter with a lady at my work, she was purchasing something and set this book down on the counter i merely pointed and exclaimed "OH!" and she replied with "oh my god!" "i know right?!" "so good"...and that about sums it all up

Don't waste your time with these books. The first book was okay, but the violence put me off a little. Definitely too violent for Young Adults. They get worse as they go along; in readability, plot and substance, and go totally over the top, into actual boredom with their increased violence in each book. I wrote longer reviews for the other two books. I'm not going to waste my time with a long one here. If your considering buying or reading these books, for yourself, or especially for a teen in your life, don't. They disappoint, on almost every level. Come on publishers out there; give us something worthwhile to seek our teeth into. Give us something we can recommend without reservation. Give us real books, not imitations of what good writing, and a worthwhile read should be.

I was blown away by the Hunger Games and thought it couldn't get any better. But, I tore through Catching Fire and was captivated until the end. I am immediately going to go pick up Mockingjay and I hope it doesn't disappoint. This is a FANTASTIC series!

Primero que todo el libro es muy ameno, lo que hace, que se lea muy rapido ademá que su lectura es muy facil. Pero tiene el incoveniente que el libro en si, se le despeguen las paginas, en mi caso varias paginas se salieron solas, la calidad deja mucho que desear.

You see parents struggling to have a normal family. At the same time, all 3 of their daughters show evidence of a dysfunctional family. One daughter is maried to a wife-beating drug user, another one moves away from home into an unsafe environment and is raped, while the girl portrayed in this story finds herself unattractive because of comments about her weight (which in reality is normal and the boys find her excessively attractive). The emotional pain takes her down the road to being anorexic. Will she find help before she dies? A must read.

Young Adult Fiction (Seven Deadly Sins Series, The Intern, Book 1, LUST) Information

This was a fun book! I think Ms. Scott series is going to take off like a rocket. Ms. Scott's writing flowed well and her descriptive were excellent. The characters had depth and I felt like they were realistic with all the trials and tribulations of todays youth.

I loved the protagonist, Suzy Q. and her foray into the world of hip-hop! Jo.Zee, her dance instructor is not only gorgeous, he's mysterious and a way sexy dancer!

The story takes Suzy Q. away from the safe environment of Chester, her best bud and her hometown to the big city where everything is exciting and well, just...BIG! It's everything that Suzy's dreamt of and now, she's caught the attention of Jo.Zee and she has to make a big decision whether or not to let lust override her sense of what she knows is right.

Another thing I really enjoyed about this book was the pop culture aspect. The description of the dance moves had me trying a few myself (blush), the music, the art... all of it. It's part of what made it such a fascinating read.
I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

I'll admit... I'm torn. While I enjoyed most of the read, I found myself oft bothered by the intense constancy of lewd and very adult thematics, in what is wrapped up as a youth's novel.

I was relieved that as everything culminated there is a salvageable message, and life lesson to glean from it all.

The Intern by Jess C. Scott is the first in a series of books called The 7 Deadly Sins (SINS07). This book is about lust. I liked it from the get-go, and just wanted to keep on reading and reading. I love the humor in the story, the reality of it. It is believable. Jess really paints a picture of what is going on in the story and you can visualize it all. Suzie, the main character, is a girl you could know. Your friend. Your sister. Your classmate. She is easily likable. I can't wait to read the second book in this series. I think this series will sky-rocket and become very popular.

THE INTERN, by Jess C. Scott, was an interesting start to a series in which each book focuses on the Seven Deadly Sins. The Intern explored the sin of Lust.

Right from the start I had some issues with this book. I felt there was a lot of telling versus showing. Every emotion and situation seemed to be explained to me, I felt I did not even need to think while reading, it definitely took me out of the story.

On the other hand, I liked the "story" as whole. It was a good concept, great plot, and there was a whopper of a twist at the end. Scott's talent was showcased in her visualizations of the dance routines. I enjoyed reading and experiencing the freedom and rhythm that these dancers possessed.

Even though I liked the story, the actual wording of it and the telling versus showing really took me out the story and it was tedious to read at times. I wanted to like it more but it just did not work for me. I would still like to read the next book in the series because I love where Scott is going in this series. I would recommend reading it to see for yourself, but regretfully it was just not for me.

I absolutely loved this book. I think it was amazingly written.

SPOILERS

This book is about a dystopian future where the US is split into 13 districts, rather than states. Every year each district must "sacrifice" a boy and a girl to go fight to the death in the Hunger Games.

Katniss is a 15 year old girl living in District 12. She is the main provider for her family, since her father's death years ago. On the day that the sacrifices are to be choosen, Katniss's little sister is choosen. Katniss immediately volunteers to take her place. A boy is choosen also, Peeta. Over the course of a week or so, Katniss and Peeta are sent to the Capitol to train, prepare, and get "polished". Once in the Arena for the Games, Katniss and Peeta split up, until almost the end when the rules are changed. Peeta and Katniss become a team in order to win the Games. Peeta and Katniss pretend to be in love in order to gain more supporters. Once Peeta and Katniss are the final two "survivors", the Games's officials tell them that they must fight to the death and that only one person can be the winner, which is reversing the rule change made halfway thru the game. After a daring move made by Katniss, the Officials are forced to allow both Peeta and Katniss to be named winners of the Hunger Games.

You are left wondering what will happen next to Peeta and Katniss. Will their faux romance become real for Katniss as it is for Peeta? Will their be reprecussions for Katniss's action.

The Hunger Games: A Teen's Perspective - C. King -
It took me a while to decide whether or not I want to read this trilogy. I was skeptical of all the hype, because of the Twilight craze that suddenly swept the nation and I thought that this series would be another waste of trees.

I was wrong.

As soon as I started reading I was captured by the story. I don't know what it is about Collins writing but I just could not put it down, of course I had to for work and school but as soon as I had a chance to I was cracking it open and reading more and more. This book impressed me in its simplicity and in its underlying message. Collins has written a stirring first-person narrative and didn't let any of her side characters fall by the wayside. Hunger Games is easily my second favorite book.

It is unusual that she gets so excited about reading so I purchased it immediately. She has been reading it to me as we drive around town and even I LOVE it! Wow!! From the title, I kind of expected a `tongue in cheek' comedy. However, "The Vampire with the Dragon Tattoo" is an excellent detective story about a missing teenage girl who just happens to hunt vampires. Hunting vampires and then disappears, I should say, leaving the tale of what has become of her to the talents of skeptical P.I., Mr. Spinoza. J.R. Rain's reputation as a master detective story teller is further enhanced by this forage into the supernatural. My only complaint is the narrative is a short one. What I wouldn't pay to see this delightful short story fleshed out into a full blown novel!

I stumbled onto J.R. Rain by accident thanks to the Kindle and have read a lot of his work. He is getting better as a writer. I can see him becoming a best selling author shortly. This book introduced interesting characters that you want to get to know. I hope he writes more along this line.

This is definitely the herpetological bible for anyone interested in reptiles and amphibs in kansas. I recommend it to anyone. I gave it as christmas gifts to people that are always telling tall tales of snakes and giant snappers they see. As far as the current common and scientific names go, hey its science, which is constantly changing and Joseph T. Collins is at the forefront of wildlife research in kansas. It truly is a shame he cant print a new book every year, but unless youre audobon, who really can.

Good but could be better - -
Generally good pictures and up-to-date information, but writing is stilted and uninteresting.Book claims to use currently acceptable standardized names, but there is still much debate about such names. In fact, a new list of standardized names will soon be published that will make obsolete a number of names used in this book.

This is the fourth book in the Underland Chronicles. It was a great book as things really start to heat up in the Underland.

When one of the bats returns the crown that Luxa left with the Nibblers; Luxa knows the Nibblers must be in big trouble. Gregor is also making regular visits to the Underland to visit his ailing mother; during these visits Gregor trains with Ripred to improve his echolocation and in one visit meets the Bane. The Bane has grown substantially since Gregor saved him and is becoming a creature to match his name. Frustrated with the slowness of the council Luxa convinces Gregor and crew to meet with the Nibblers, but the Nibblers have disappeared and Gregor and Luxa (accompanied by Howard and Boots) are in for another another adventure that leads to a climax in the Underdark that has so long been inevitable.

This was a great book. It ripped along at a very fast pace, was very entertaining, and hard to put down. I just flew through this book. This book is different from the previous books in that the book is not a contained adventure; this book ends in the middle of the action and leads right into book 5. So, I would definitely get book 5 ahead of time to avoid frustration of being stranded in the middle of the story at the end of this book. It is also different from the other books in that there is not a prophecy forcing the story forward.

There is more blood and violence in this book than the other books. As the characters mature, so do the things they are forced to deal with. Luxa and Gregor both grow a lot as characters and begin to accept their responsibilities. You get to see a lot more of Gregor's rager abilities and a lot more of Luxa making the decisions a Queen must make. Ripred and Boots are deeply involved in the story too; these are probably my two favorite characters in this series.

A great addition to the series. Leads you to the climax of these books; very engrossing and fast-paced read. I wasn't thrilled with this series after the first couple books; but the last two books have made reading the series all worth while!

i have read the first three of the books in this series and have the last two on my desk. although the target reader is a pre-teen,at age sixty i found them entertaining and exciting. my daughter is a reading/special ed. teacher and i have given them to her for her classes. They have a little bit of gore and violence but not as much as you would see on the average tv station.

I have read all of the books in the series. This is sort of like an in-between book, a filler. It has no prophecey, and they're isn't too much action compared to the other books. I liked all of the other books, especially the Code of Claw, but this was by FAR the worst of them.

I am a K-5 school librarian and I highly recommend the first 3 books in this series for 4th and 5th graders and up. However, the 4th and 5th books in this series are much more detailed in their description of battle and genocide; children under the age of 12 may need some guidance when reading these sections. However, it truly is a wonderful and insightful book.

I loaned the first book to a very discerning and literate friend for an airline flight and she gobbled half of it up on the plane ride and then finished it at her destination. You know the kind of audio book story that makes you sit in the car to listen even after you've reached your destination? Well, this is one of those. I can hardly wait for the final book in the trilogy.

I thought that was a great book, couldn't put it down, read it in a couple of hours. Never heard of the author, but so far I have read three of her books on my IPAD. At some point in the future the United States of America will cease to exist. In its place will be a unified North American government. That will eventually be ripped apart by rebellion which will destroy vast swaths of land and leave the people living in 13 districts.

As a reminder to the people that rebellion will never succeed, and a reminder that the Capitol has total power over its citizens, the Capitol has a game every year. The rules are simple--fight to the death.

Such is the story of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games. Each year two tributes are picked from each district; two children between the ages of 12-18 are randomly picked to play a gladiator style game where the last person alive is the winner. The Hunger Games is narrated by Katniss Everdeen, a 15 year old girl from district 12. Though she is a skilled hunter in the forest, she knows she will not have good odds of surviving, especially when the boy from her district, Peeta, is so much larger than she. She also knows that other districts have tributes who have trained for years to be killers.

Katniss is determined to survive, though. As she tells her story, she reveals that she is distant, emotionally cold, and very calculating. She carefully considers each and every action by how it will affect her survival. Still, she is very likeable and you will root for her survival, even though it means watching her kill other teenagers. The reader, like the characters, has to walk an intense, fine line between rooting for a winner, (while watching other children be murdered) feeling the excitement of battle, (while understanding that it is simply a tool used by the government to maintain power) and maintaining a human connection (even though it is clear that the game must be played).

Katniss is such an honest and engaging narrator that you can't help but be drawn into her world. She tells you the events in the present tense (a remarkable stylistic device) which creates the sense of urgency and speed that will rush you along.
This book is amazing.

This is NOT a good book - Frantic Reader -
This really seems like four short stories that are connected. All the stories are told in the first-person point of view (I) and ALL of the characters sound exactly alike, even the male. I couldn't tell whose story I was reading because the voices were the same.

Let me make this clear: I loved the HIGH HEEL series. I've read and enjoyed all of them. Ms. Halliday is a terrific writer with wonderful humor--on those books.

And the characters were so awful. They were either drunk or hung over most of the time. Ella is caught in a bad marriage and has no idea what's going on. Nor (SPOILER ALERT) does she seem to realize her spending all night out partying with her friends could be a problem. Kit is supposed to have "IT" but she's in love with a married jerk and takes revenge by destroying him--very immature considering he didn't FORCE her to sleep with him nor did he promise to be faithful. We're supposed to admire her heroic stand--but it came over as petty and self-centered. Mary has a dead end job and is constantly looking for someone to fix her. She does have an epiphany at the end, the only good thought these women possessed. David was the only character I liked and he wimped out on his boyfriend. All in all, NOT a bunch of people I enjoy reading about, immature drunks, at least all the ladies.

This is very short. The last 10% is filled with excerpts from other books.

Save your money. You won't be able to finish this even at the short length.

This is the second book in the Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins. While I still didn't find this book to be as good as her novel The Hunger Games, I thought that this book was better than the first one in this series. If you liked the first book, you are sure to like this one.

Gregor is struggling to deal with life after returning with his father from the first book in the Underland Chronicles. His dad is sick and can't work so his family is struggling to make ends meet. In an effort to give his little 2 yr old sister Boots so semblance of a normal childhood he decides to take her out sledding in Central Park. He looks away for a second and next thing he knows Boots has been kidnapped back into the Underland. Gregor follows her kidnappers and finds that she has been kidnapped to in order to ensure her safety. Apparently him and Boots are part of the next Underland prophecy; one in which all is lost if the baby dies and one in which Gregor is supposed to single handidly destroy the evil white rat called the Bane.

I thought that the character development was better in this book and that in general the book was paced better with more engaging action sequences. This book wasn't wrapped up as nicely as the first book; there were still unresolved issues with missing people and stuff like that. A very solid children's book again, with easy vocab, and some violence and scary parts. I liked two of the new characters introduced; both Howard and the rat the accompanies Gregor (I am drawing a blank on her name) really add to the story and are developed as great characters.

My only complaints again would be that this isn't the most creative story. It is also a very straighforward story; there was a small twist at the end but it was nothing that couldn't be foreseen. I wish the plots of these books were a bit more complex. I suppose there is some charm in the simplicity of it too and I guess *it is* a children's book.

Overall this book is a quick read and it is engaging. A great children's book that I think adult fans of fantasy would like too. I am looking forward to the third book.

I love finding a new book series that I can really sink into and enjoy. And I definitely have found that in Suzanne Collins' THE UNDERLAND CHRONICLES. A friend had recommended the first book to me, and from there, I knew I had to finish off the entire series. The first book was just too great to pass up. And now, with book two, GREGOR AND THE PROPHECY OF BANE, Collins has really outdone herself again.

This time around, Gregor returns to the Underland when his sister Boots is taken by the Crawlers. Once he arrives in Regalia, the underground realm of the humans and bats, Gregor finds himself faced with another prophecy: The Prophecy of Bane. And this one is not as pretty as the first one either. In the end, bad things will happen if the prophecy is fulfilled. And that's when Gregor realizes: According to the prophecy, either the Bane, the rat's new weapon against the Underland, must die, or Boots must die.

The action and adventure continues straight through this one, and readers will be excited to return to the Underland and explore more of its corners and secrets. The only complaint I really had was that while the climax held some surprises and mystery, the ending seemed to fade out slowly instead of wrapping up to a finish. I passed the climax, and starting wondering, "Is that it? Was that kind of the end?" And while Collins held out a couple of secrets until the end, it generally wasn't anything too surprising.

This book also seemed a lot more gruesome than book one, which had me actually cringing a couple times from some of the goriness of a handful of scenes. While they were necessary to the theme of the book and Gregor's personal journey, it did seem much more gruesome than most middle-grade titles.

All said though, GREGOR AND THE PROPHECY OF BANE, lives right up to the first book, and only promises more to come with the sneak hints at some other mysteries of Underland still to be fully explained and explored.

I loved the first book, and the second book did not disappoint.

Collins does an excellent job bringing us up to speed with Gregor's life, and does not cheapen the first book by making everything 'perfect' for Gregor and his family after he completed the first quest that he had to. The reasons for him returning to the Underland are compelling, and I was swept up in the drama of the story right away. Not only was his home life not perfect, but life in the Underland isn't perfect either. Anyone who has already fallen in love with the Underland characters will be glad to see them again, and to get to know more about their stories. There are also several interesting new characters who arrive (Luxa's cousins) that promise more interesting plots in the future!

The book doesn't end as satisfyingly as the first book. While the story makes sense and completes in a good place, there are still a lot of unanswered questions that makes me even more anxious to pick up the next one. If the third book wasn't already out, I'd be miserable!

If you want to hook your boys into reading these books will do the trick. Gregor the main character is such a good role model. We have fallen in love with all the characters and will be very sad when the 5 books are all read. The writing is descriptive, and full of wonderful words for building vocabularies. Highly recommended!

Suzanne Collins is the author of the phenomenally successful - and phenomenally good - young adult series, the Hunger Games, which began with The Hunger Games, continued in Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games) and will conclude with Mockingjay (The Final Book of The Hunger Games), due in August, 2010. (Can't wait!) I hope fans of the Hunger Games series will be willing to give Collin's earlier series, offered here as a box set, a try. Though aimed at a slightly younger audience than the Hunger Games, the story is, IMHO, equally absorbing and unforgettable.

If someone would have told me that I would fall in love with a series of children's books featuring giant bats, giant rats and giant cockroaches among other creatures, I would have been very skeptical (to put it mildly). In fact, after I found the first book in the series, Gregor The Overlander (Underland Chronicles, Book 1), in a used bookstore and picked it up to see if it should be added to my growing library of children's books, it sat in my to-be-read pile for more than a year. When I finally sat down with it, though, I was less than half way through when I set it aside just long enough to drive to the bookstore so that I could buy the rest of the series. I knew that I would want them on hand so that I could finish the series in one big rush - which is exactly what I did. Then I ordered the entire set in hardcover for myself, gave them a prominent place on my keep forever shelf and mailed the paperback editions to my adult daughter for her to enjoy. She did. I am now sharing the series with my oldest grandchild, who is also loving it.

In the Underland Chronicles, Suzanne Collins has created a wonderful alternative world that exists side by side with our own. Well, okay, it exists underneath our own, far underneath. Collins is a master at describing that world, enabling me to perfectly envision each new landscape as our heroes move from one area of their diverse world to another. The vast sea, the poisonous jungle, the searing heat of the volcanic wastelands - everything still remains vivid in my mind. And Collins accomplishes this without taking pages and pages to do so.

There's a simplicity to the books - not only does Collins never over-describe the world, she allows readers to use their imaginations regarding the characters as well. In fact, I'm not quite sure if she ever gives a physical description of eleven year old Gregor at all. But just as as I could imagine the vistas, I could picture the wonderful characters - Boots, Ripred, Luxa, Ares and Temp among so many others - as well and very clearly.

There's love and caring in this series, family, friends, humor and sorrow, duty, prophecies, adventure and, of course, a world to save. The Underland Chronicles (which is sometimes referred to as the Gregor the Overlander series in recommendation threads) deals with war and does a very good job of forcing readers to look at both sides of the disputes underlying the conflict. (Parents should be cautioned that in the course of the series, more than one beloved character dies.)

My only complaint about the Underland Chronicles is that I found the ending of the series vaguely unsatisfactory. While I appreciate that, with what Collins has given me and how she left things, I can create my own future for the characters, I know I'd still love to read more stories set in this world, perhaps 15 years or so down the road. If Collins does not want to revisit these specific characters, I'd still enjoy another trip to this world, with a catch up as to the fate of the characters we met in these volumes revealed somehow as part of the Underland's history. I can only hope. :-)

In the growing number of fantasy series aimed at children, I would, if asked, place The Underland Chronicles firmly in third place, just behind Harry Potter and the wonderful Faeries of Dreamdark series (Blackbringer (Dreamdark) and Dreamdark: Silksinger (Faeries of Dreamdark) by Laini Taylor. (Psssst - if you haven't read these yet, run now and check them out - fabulous writing & storytelling with unforgettable characters!). I'm often surprised that the Underland Chronicles doesn't seem to be as well known as some of the other series currently crowding the shelves.

Very, very highly recommended.

After reading the first two books in the Hunger Game series (and waiting impatiently for Mockinjay), I decided to try Suzanne Collins' Gregor books. I LOVED this series! I had to make myself stop reading so I could get some sleep for work the next day. The characters were well-developed and the story was a wonderful fantasy. Both of my daughters in their twenties devoured these books too. I have come to the conclusion that books with young protagonists are classified as young adult, even though they are enjoyed by all ages. Don't hesitate to buy this series!

Although the Underland Chronicles have been published for a couple of years now , we just discovered them. Initially a reluctant reader, my daughter now enjoys reading very much. She has also read the the first two Hunger Game books by Suzanne Collins and can't wait for the third book to come out. The Underland Chronicles boxed set (books 1 to 5) is a great buy and fun reading for children 9 to 12 years old.

What I especially liked about it is how easy it is to understand as it guides you through the entire process from medical, to diagnosis and through treatment, pregnancy and beyond.

It provides sound advice for infertility coverage and choosing a good doctor. It offers alternatives to conventional fertility treatment, as well as adoption, and the use of donors and/or surrogates. Throughout, if gives the reader emotional support, which I feel is the hardest obstacle to overcome. If you only buy one book about infertility, buy this one. It offers in-depth, solid information about male and female infertility problems, testing, hormone levels and treatments.

But what really separates this book from the others is that it includes a great deal of information on how to decide which treatments are right for you, as well as when (if) you should end treatment. They don't give any pat answers, but they do equip you with the decision making skills you need to reach a point of resolution.

I was grateful to find this new book to address many questions and concerns I had. The content is thorough, the tone is very compassionate, and the suggestions are respectful of diverse values. There are lots of quotes from real people that bring a nice personal touch to a sometimes very clinical subject. I get a lot of comfort from just re-reading parts of the book that reassure me that others before me have taken and survived this journey. I don't know of any other book like it.

Gregor and the Code of Claw (Underland Chronicles, Book 5) Review

After reading the other Gregor books, you can bet I'd be excited. I finished 'The Code of Claw' in a matter of two days, and much of it was enjoyable. The plot was fast-paced and addicting. I couldn't put the book down for more than forty minutes a time ( it would have been shorter, no thanks to school,). Ripred was by far my favorite character. His personality and wit always made me appreciate Collins' character creating abilities. The relationship between Gregor and Luxa was sweet and complicated, and it made me smile more than once. Usually with these books it feels like a blur. The problems are solved quickly, but not in a bad way. It always gives me an odd sense of satisfaction, although I do love nice long books. I'd say the only dissatisfying part of this book was the ending. I don't want to give out any spoilers (it is a rather big peeve of mine) so I'll just say Suzanne didn't tie up the ends enough. What of the Underland? Virginia? Lizzie? All these things were not solved. I feel a bit sad and rather dissatisfied. I was even more disheartened to find this was (supposedly and hopefully not) the last installment of the excellent series. Perhaps she could consider making a new one? I sure hope so. On such a popular and well-written series, I wouldn't want to end it on a note like that.
For those of you wanting to read this book or series, don't let the end stop you. I think it's worth it. The characters are deep, the plot is chalk-full of action, and there will be many unexpected twists. An over-all great series.
Another note, the gore in this series did not effect me in the slightest. For those who become queasy easily or are sensitive to blood or gore, the worst that will happen is you'll grimace. One line in 'The Prophecy of Bane' about a rat having her intestines spill on to the floor did in fact make me wince, but that's the only example. Sorry if that scared you. Well, I think I'm done rating this book. Maybe seeing it from a 12 year old's point of view might clear things up. Have fun reading this book

Oh my goodness! I loved the first book so much. It left a feel goodness for days. After I finished the book, I smiled thinking of the story for a long time. I lingered and savored it, then picked up book 2.

Book 2 still had a little sweetness left, but some very disturbing thoughts and images too. Then it kept going downhill after that. I kept thinking it would get better with a happy resolution. But it just got worse and worse. Main characters dying, plague, war, bloody war. More war, death. Wow.

Unless you want visions of a 6' tall rat ripping a mothers' throat out while her children are overhead, reading about the death of characters you started liking, imagining blood up to your ankles, piles of bodies trying to scream with toxic air entering their lungs...oh it gets worse. Book 1 was great.

No feel good feeling left from the first story. I am completely depressed and wonder why Ms. Collins killed all those characters. What was the point?

Unbelievable. I never expected the series to end like this and all I can say is.. WOW. WOW WOW WOW.

I shouldn't be surprised. Suzanne Collins captured my attention with The Hunger Games and kept it through Catching Fire. When I first began to read about Gregor and Boots I thought.. man, this is a cute story - and funny! and full of adventure.

Now, as I sit here wiping away my tears and trying to recover from the emotional upheaval the last 50 pages of the book caused in me.. I think I am finally going to declare this series a five star one for me.

This final book was non-stop action. There was emotion, growth of character and, I can't spoil it, but prepare yourself and have a box of kleenix nearby.

I have many favorite characters in the series, but I think the one that tops the list for me is Ares the bat, followed closely by Temp the cockroach and Ripred the rat. All three of those creatures are not generally loved so for Collins to give them personality that is so endearing and perfect - all I can say is bravo to her.

I'm sad to be leaving the Underland behind. I think every boy and girl would love to think that there is a magical place like this beneath us (although perhaps not quite so brutal). This is a series I'll be purchasing on putting on the shelf for my nephew to read.

I loved the first Four books. They were so great. Then I read the last book. Horrible. Unless of course you like ultra depressing endings. Definitely not for children, Actually the whole series is pretty graphic. I just can't believe the ending. I looked forward to the ending and it let me down. It ruined the entire series for me.
